The Scales Don't Lie by Terry Knight

Terry Knight is one of angling’s great characters, and this very detailed and well documented book is a celebration of a remarkable fishing career spanning more than six decades.

A leading light in the predator world, Terry can boast boating one of the largest pike ever.

This book is a great read, with chapters covering famous waters such as Loch Lomond and Blithfield. If you want a personally signed copy, pop along to the PAC convention at the Kettering Conference centre on September 19, where you can meet the man himself.

Vespe E2 Bi-Core elastic

Vespe has added two powerful new elastics to its E2 Bi-Core range – the 3.2mm Fluoro Pink and 3.8mm Fluoro Yellow.

Both combine an incredible 850 per cent average stretch factor with a silky-smooth fish-playing action. They are ideal for ‘zoo creature’ carp, particularly when side puller kits are being used, but they can also be set light so as not to bump off smaller fish. Visit www.vespe.com

Leeda Moonlight

Leeda’s dome-style light emits a 360-degree evenly spread beam with a choice of three levels of brightness.

A rear-mounted magnetic plate secures it inside your bivvy, or a brolly-friendly karabiner clip attaches it to the internal ribs of a brolly shelter.

Weighing just 104g, the Moonlight is sure to be a hit with the kit-conscious roving carp angler.

A splash-resistant housing is a sensible feature, and it will run for hours off three AAA batteries.

Gardner Glo Pro luminescent line marker

This Gardner Glo Pro luminescent line marker is available in hi-viz orange, yellow, pink and green versions and glows for up to 12 minutes after being charged with a UV torch or powerful LED headtorch.

Simply paint it on to your mainline and it forms a tidy tapered coloured marker which won’t snag in the rod rings when casting, or slip when you are playing a fish.

Its flexible rubber texture means that it can be easily removed with your fingernail.

This stuff is ideal for clipped-up casting at night – just remember to shake the bottle well before use.

Price: £4.99 (£10.99 for a twin pack)

Middy Xtreme Pro Dacron connectors

These revolutionary elastic to line Middy Xtreme Pro Dacron connectors feature a soft rubber oversleeve that rests up against the PTFE bush, protecting it from any possible line damage.

Each pack comes with colour-matching Dacron link loops which can be attached separately to the connector.

This gives the angler the best of both worlds, as the rig line can also be looped directly on to the connector without the Dacron link – a great idea from Middy.

TF Gear Banana Braid

Peeling off the reel like no other, the new TF Gear Banana Braid has an ultra-low diameter to add yard to the cast. With its abrasion-resistant coating, this is probably the most durable braid available.

Maver Signature seatboxes

With retail prices starting at a very modest £299.99 for the introductory 200 model, Maver’s stylish Signature seatboxes really do cater for every angler’s pocket.

All four in the range are packed with practical features such as sturdy 30mm round telescopic legs, anti-memory seat cushion with pole safety strap, and a huge range of modular units compatible with the top-selling Mxi range.

Maver’s patented and trusted lock and slide hinge system is used on all drawers and box units, and the Signature 800 and 1000 versions have wheel kits as part of the package.

As you may well have come to expect from Maver, the graphics and cosmetics of the new seatboxes are stylishly impressive, but it is their practicality and flexibility that really sets them apart.

There are many things about this new series that I like, but if asked to highlight just a couple I would have to say the 30mm legs – which provide such brilliant stability – and the fact the seat height can be easily adjusted to suit all heights. These two alone set it apart from many on the market.

Thus is a truly multi-discipline seatbox well able to cope with any type of venue.

Price: £499.99 (Signature 1000)

VERDICT

Sure to prove hugely popular with the commercial fishery match angler, the new Signatures’ 30mm legs provide superb stability on any terrain.

Fox Explorer Barrow

Barrow-Main.jpg

- Ergonomically shaped removable handles

- Robust, hi-tensile steel frame

- Quick-release wheel system with pneumatic tyre

- Swivelling mudfeet with spiked bases

- Compact pack-down design to fit in the smallest of car boots

- Two FX Universal Barrow Straps with looped attachments to the frame

- Camo storage bag

- Two mesh storage pockets (with side access) either side of the wheel

- Compatible with the new Fox Camolite luggage range

Also available is an extendable front bag rack, which allows the Camolite Barrow Bag to sit right at the front of the barrow in ‘session mode’ when carrying a bedchair.

When fishing days without a bed, simply retract the front rack and turn the Barrow Bag round to face you.

This unique new Fox Explorer barrow for the day session angler is designed with versatility in mind – it can be tweaked for use on longer sessions where bedchairs and extra tackle are needed.

The idea is that the angler leaves most of his tackle in situ on the barrow while he fishes, so that packing up and moving swims can be done quickly with little hassle.

Thanks to an extendable front barrow bag rack, more space is made available for carrying extra kit. When these items are added the barrow remains well balanced.

The feature-packed Explorer comes with a drop-in, central storage bag in the Fox Camo pattern, along with two mesh storage pockets, one either side of the wheel, that are perfect for storing items such as a 5-litre water bottle and bait.

Bag and pockets have zipped sides for quick and easy access, with no need to take any items off of the barrow.

Drennan Ghost top kits

Drennan has just released a selection of Ghost top kits to complement its ever-growing range of poles.

The special light grey-coloured paint finish was first seen on its Acolyte Margin Carp pole, and proved such a success that the company has now added the same ‘Ghost’ finish as an option to its standard Carp Plus tops. These are designed for the standard 2.89m Carp Kits and Double 2 Carp Kits that come with the Acolyte, Acolyte Carp and Series 7 poles.

Usefully, a Drennan Ghost Kit doesn’t cost any extra than the equivalent top kit without the special paint finish, so you can buy them separately. There are five different Ghost Kit top-2s currently available.

Prices: Ghost Margin Kit (2.33m) £49; Drennan Ghost Carp Kit (2.89m) £49; Drennan Ghost Double 2 Carp Kit (2.89m) £49; Acolyte Ghost Carp Kit (2.89m) £79; Acolyte Ghost Double 2 Carp Kit (2.89m) £79
