When the weather starts to warm up should I increase how much I feed or will the water still be cold?
Scott Lloyd:
Firstly I would decide what bait I am going to use. I like to use a milk protein bait because it’s easily digestible for the fish as their digestive system works at a slower rate in the colder water temperatures. I opt for whole and crushed 12mm Manilla freezer baits along with some small Manilla pellet and the cloudy liquid to get it all active.
I let the fish tell me how much to introduce If they are showing lots and getting caught regularly then I will start with a lot. However, if this isn’t the case I’ll go for a little and often approach. There are other ways to tell if the bait is getting eaten, for instance via the ‘donk’ on the lead. The harder the spot gets the more they’re eating. I also pay close attention to the birds. If they’re diving all over spots that I know and eating peoples bait then that tells me that the bait isn’t getting eaten. Pay close attention to others and their results, if everyone is baiting loads to no success then the opposite can be a good approach and vice versa.
There is so much going on out there that will tell you how much bait to use but it’s a case of opening your eyes to it.
