Anglers take huge bream haul from Scotland's Loch Ken after prebaiting

The bream of Loch Ken, Scotland, were feeding hard recently, when a trio of anglers took over 250lb of the species in a day.

Richard King, Nigel Baker and Matt Baker had prebaited their swim on the Galloway venue, laying a carpet of bait consisting of 20kg of brown crumb, 5kg of sweetcorn and 10kg of pellets.

Fishing over the area at 40yds from the bank, the three Midlands-based anglers adopted the same tactics, presenting four dead maggots on a size 14 hook in conjunction with a paternoster feeder rig.

“We were there for four days and we took the big weight on the last day,” said Richard. “We were fishing in 32ft of water and used the orange ball of a toilet stopcock as a marker float and the dinghy to get the bait in the right spot. It paid off, too.”
