Shimano unveil their new carp, coarse and specialist reels for 2011

Shimano has recently unveiled a host of brand new carp, coarse and specialist fishing reels for the 2011 angling season.

The Japanese company showcased a revamped version of its ever-popular Super Baitrunner. The new XTR-A comes in three sizes - 6000, 8000 and 10000, and features new shielded anti-rust bearings, faster retrieve ratios and one-piece bail arms. Lauded by the company as its ‘best ever Baitrunner’, the range costs between £155 and £160.

Pleasure and match anglers were also well catered for with the new reel launches in the form of the new Exage, Nexave and Catana fixed spool models, all of which combine features found on its more expensive models with mid-price affordability.

The top of the trio, the Exage, is available with either single or double handle, features a ‘Fightin’ Drag’ for precise clutch control when playing fish, and comes in a range of small and mid sizes from 1000 to 4000. For match anglers, there is also a high speed (6.2:1) graphite shallow spool model available.

The Exage range is priced at between £65 and £75, the Nexave series at between £45 and £55 and the Catana at between £33 and £37.

Front drag versions of all three will also be available, while for top-end match anglers a new Technium FC reel has also been launched with a waterproof micro-adjustable clutch, high torque retrieve and three shielded anti-rust bearings. Coming in 1000, 2500, 3000, 4000 and 5000 sizes, the Technium is priced at between £170 and £190 - although look out for special offers.
