Biggest river roach of the year banked

This is a picture of the biggest roach to be caught from any river in the whole of 2011.

The rare and hugely impressive fish weighed 3lb 1oz and was taken from the Bristol Avon by Dr Mark Everard during a short 90-minute session into dusk.

It fell to a large pinch of feederfished breadflake and is the twelfth ‘three’ that the Wiltshire-based redfin fanatic has banked in his career, and his tenth from the venue.

It is also by far the biggest example of the species in what he admits has been a very poor season to date.
