Birmingham AA season permits to go on sale early

One of the nation’s top clubs is offering its members a free month of fishing!

Birmingham AA’s season runs from January 1 until the end of the year but officials have decided to sell permits from December 1 for the 2012 period, with prices also being frozen at the current rate.

The club controls a whole host of venues, with well stocked lakes, rivers and canals on their books.

Barbel boost for Yorkshire rivers

The River Aire has benefitted from an Environment Agency scheme to introduce more barbel to Yorkshire waterways.

Officials from the EA released 500 of the species into the waterway at Stourton and Armley and have ensured fishermen the move doesn’t mark the end of the project.

Other waterways in the region have also been given a stocking boost, with experts at Calverton fish farm revealing 3,000 barbel had been introduced into rivers across Yorkshire in recent weeks.

Staff have tagged the fish with an easily noticeable dye to help them monitor their progress in their new homes.

Victory at Barnburgh Lakes earns Law double reward

Match angler Ryan Law walked away £500 richer and also a season ticket after he scooped victory during the latest event at South Yorkshire’s Barnburgh Lakes.

The local rod decided to use maggot on the pole line after drawing peg 3 on the Bottom Pond and was able to land an F1 on virtually every drop to record an overall total of 65lb 4oz.

His antics earned him the big cash prize and also a year’s free fishing at the complex.
Goldthorpe’s Andy Sutton finished second with 52lb 4oz while Les Peace was just behind in third with a level 50lb.

Roach bags over 50lb falling at club water

A club water that is home to huge shoals of roach has hit top form with bags of up to 50lb being taken on a regular basis.

The northern reservoir has been kept largely under wraps for a number of years but the secret is now out and more anglers are joining the controlling club to sample the delights.

Regardless of what tactic you decide to employ you are almost certain to be kept busy, with pole, waggler and feeder all scoring heavily.

“I can’t think of a better roach venue in the country. The fish average around the 6oz mark but there are plenty over the 1lb mark and every peg is solid with redfins,” explained one local angler.

For more details on the venue and the best rigs for bagging at it, pick up a copy of next week’s Angling Times, on the shelves from Tuesday November 22.

Korda sponsor Carp Team England

The Angling Trust is delighted to announce that it has signed a 5 year deal with Korda to sponsor Carp Team England.

The deal, worth more than £100,000 in cash and business support will pay for England’s best carp anglers to travel wherever the World Carp Championships are held each year, along with a strong team of journalists and TV production crew.

Korda’s involvement will help produce a platform to propel international carp fishing to a new level in this country. With their expertise in delivering excellent television, internet and magazine material, along with an abundance of commercial knowledge, Carp Team England’s journey will be televised and covered heavily in the angling media.

Ali Hamidi of Korda said: “We are delighted to work with the new unified representative body for all angling to support Carp Team England.  For years now there has been insufficient financial backing for the team, almost no media recognition and despite some good results that elusive gold team medal has not been achieved.  I believe everything goes hand in hand, if you’ve got great back office support, with a unified patriotic team, and the talent pool of anglers that we have in this country then we can all look forward to a great future with Carp Team England becoming the most successful carp team in world angling. For too long, international carp fishing has been overlooked, but with our media work and our unprecedented TV coverage, we will set new heights with this. It should act as a figure of inspiration for younger anglers, who can aspire to represent their country in their favourite hobby. Our growing relationship with the Angling Trust should also help them grow the member base to help ensure a bright future for angling in the UK. We can’t wait to set-up paths to entry into the team and get the ball rolling. This is exciting times for the sport, and Korda Carp Team England will really help in growing carp fishing not just in this country, but across Europe”.

Dick Clegg, Angling Trust’s International Events Manager, said: “This is excellent news for Carp Team England. To have such a well-respected sponsor from the carp fishing industry supporting the team, gives us a great opportunity to develop the team further and build on the previous successes.”

The Angling Trust’s Finance & Business Manager, Stuart Sharp, who joined the Trust in August and finalised the deal with Korda over the past few weeks said: “This is a fantastic deal for Carp Team England and for angling as a whole.  Korda’s commitment to the England team and the development of the competitive side of carp fishing is clear to see. We look forward to working with Korda to maximise the value for them as a sponsor and to ensure that the team can focus on fishing, rather than fundraising to pay their way.  We are looking for sponsors for many other England teams and are eager to hear from any potential sponsors who might be interested in following the lead of Korda by backing the best carp anglers in the country.”

Top mixed day ticket water created at popular commercial

A venue that has gained a national reputation for its carp bagging exploits has moved to give its customers more variety by opening one of the best mixed waters in the country.

The southern complex has produced carp weights to over 500lb in five hour competitions this year and although it has been praised for its unique qualities, others have claimed the sport is too extreme and have been crying out for an alternative.

In a bid to cater for everyone, bosses have stocked big slabs, tench, rudd and hybrids into the Specimen Lake which is also home to pristine mirrors and commons to well over 20lb.

“It’s the perfect lake. When the float sinks under you don’t know what is on the other end – it could be a 1oz rudd or a 20lb carp and it’s fishable on a day ticket,” explained venue regular Mal Talbot.

For more details on the complex and the major development, pick up a copy of this week’s Angling Times, on the shelves from Tuesday November 15.

Famous roach river given major boost

A river that was once widely regarded as the best roach river in the country could be set to make a major comeback after officials revealed that thousands of fish were set to be introduced into the venue.

The southern waterway, which has produced redfins over the 3lb mark in the past, has been subject to a special project aimed at boosting fish stocks and the people involved have announced all their hardwork is about to pay off.

“This river has been hit hard over the years by predation and abstraction but this stocking could be the start of yet another golden period,” explained a source close to the scheme.

To find out which river is receiving the makeover and more about the unique project, pick up a copy of next week’s Angling Times, on the shelves from Tuesday November 8.

Potential World Record Perch Landed

Could this be the picture of a new world record perch? Experts estimate its weight to be around the 7 – 8lb mark although the 19ins long fish taken by Alrik Nedermeijer in Holland was not weighed.

It came from the Hollandsch Diep River system and the Savage Gear consultant initially thought he had hooked a small pike.

For the full story and reaction to the catch check out this week’s Angling Times.

Alders Farm launch new website

Top bagging water Alders Farm has launched a new website which is set to be updated on a daily basis.

The Buckinghamshire-complex has produced mammoth weights to over 500lb this year and the new site will be packed with information about the lakes, current hot tactics and match results.

Details on forthcoming events will also be posted to prevent pleasure anglers making wasted journeys.

Lincolnshire's Fossdyke hits top form

Lincolnshire’s Fossdyke Canal is one of the country’s most inform venues for nets of roach and big perch, with recent events being won with catches up to 20lb.

Most matches on the venue near Lincoln feature several huge stripeys which have been taken to over 4lb in competitions and last week Angling Times visited the venue with local expert Steve Winter.

To read Steve’s devastatingly effect tips and tricks, see this week’s Angling Times.

Thousands of new fish stocked at Bradshaw Fishery

A top commercial complex has continued its drive to improve sport for visitors by introducing thousands of new fish into the waters.

Lancashire’s Bradshaw Hall Fisheries has recently come under new ownership and bosses have stamped their mark on the site quickly by adding 2000 barbel, 2000 chub and 1000 tench.

The venue is also looking to rename the lakes and is on the hunt for suggestions from anglers during the process.

Blackpool sea anglers celebrate parking victory

A council that banned sea anglers from taking their vehicles within feet of a popular venue has moved to solve the situation by creating a permit system.

Fishermen have campaigned to be able to take their cars on to the Lower Walk area of Blackpool Promenade ever since it was banned in 2009 for safety reasons and the local council is now piloting a 12 month scheme that allows them to snap up a ticket to park close to the shore.

So far the move has been greeted with delight by visiting anglers, and over 250 badges have been issued to date.

Big bream water makes stunning revival

A venue that was once considered to be the best bream water in the land is making a major comeback following a long lull in form.

The large Midlands waterway used to draw anglers from far and wide but they eventually swapped natural fishing for commercial complexes.

But it is now making a revival, with double fish coming out regularly and locals claim it takes less than 15 slabs to reach the 100lb mark!

Dynamite Baits ace Rob Fryer has fished the venue for decades and believes there has never been a better time to visit the water.

“The bream used to average around 4lb but they’ve doubled in weight now and a 10lb plus fish is never out of the question. You’ve got to do a little bit of homework but if you land on the fish you are with a great chance of taking the catch of a lifetime,” explained Rob.

Club spends £12,000 to bolster fish stocks

An ambitious angling club has moved to bolster its stocks yet again by introducing over £12,000 of fish to their waters.

Around 150 carp averaging 8lb have been spread between Hull DAA’s specimen orientated venues, while 1,000 stockies and 300 tench have been placed into complexes dominated by match and pleasure anglers.

The move represents just a small part of a long term project, with the outfit spending over £40,000 on fish stockings in the last three years.

Proactive angling club receive top honour

An association that has worked tirelessly to provide its junior members with the best possible facilities has been awarded the prestigious Clubmark status.

Shropshire’s Dawley AS has seen the numbers of youths on its books rocket in recent years and the Angling Development Board will hand over the honour – which recognises excellent progress in coaching school children - at a special ceremony on November 2 in which the local mayor and several VIPs will attend.
