Three bites in a row result in lake's three biggest fish
Three bites in a row resulted in Nick Harrison landing the three biggest carp from Richworth Linear Fisheries’ Unity Lake.
The trio were part of a seven fish haul made by the 43-year-old Total Angling employee and included a common of 43lb 15oz, a mirror of 43lb and a ghostie of 38lb 14oz.
When he arrived at the 25-acre Oxfordshire venue he spotted fish moving at 70yds range and after a lead around he located patches of gravel and silt either side of an area of weed. His rigs were then positioned over these spots along with a scattering of Mainline Baits new Essential Cell Opal boilies.
“I had a couple of doubles to start off with, but I noticed that these fish still had leaches on them,” explained the Shrewsbury-based rod. “This led me to believe that the majority of the fish would still be held up in the weed in between the clear spots so I repositioned all my rigs straight in to the green stuff.”
The change paid off, and his next three takes resulted in him posing for the cameras with the lake’s three most sought after fish.
“It was incredible fishing. I had the 43lb mirror known as Moonscale first which was a new lake record mirror. Six hours later the big common was in the net and the following morning the ghostie called Apollo made an appearance. Before the end of the trip I also managed to land a second ghostie of 31lb and another double.”
Nick’s successful presentation consisted of pop-up hookbaits mounted on hinged-stiff rigs tied with 25lb Fox Rigidity hooklinks and size 6 Fox Arma Point SR hooks.
“To make sure I got a good presentation over the weed I used a piece of PVA foam on the hook on the cast and then fed around 1.5kg of boilies after every fish.”
