New match waters for top commercial fishery
One of the country’s most popular commercial fisheries has revealed ambitious plans to dig a series of new waters.
Cheshire’s Partridge Lakes attracts thousands of match and pleasure rods every year and officials have announced that that the two Holbar Lakes will be dissolved into one bigger water to cater for specimen anglers.
There are also four Covey Lakes on the complex which cater solely for competitions and contractors will soon begin work on two similar waters to help the fishery host more big events in the future.
Work is expected to be completed by Easter 2013 and more details can be found at www.partridgelakes.co.uk
Barbel dominate in 113lb commercial catch
Barbel are becoming a more common occurrence in stillwaters as Derek Gladwin found out when he took 113lb 10oz of them to win the latest event at Monk Lakes.
The Preston Innovations Delcac man picked peg 57 on Lake Two out of the draw bag and made no mistake, taking specimens to 5lb by alternating between the Method feeder with meat and pellet on the pole line.
Runner up Sean Clifford was the only other man to place triple figures on the scales, recording a 104lb 12oz mixed catch.
Matchman nets huge pike on Stainforth & Keadby Canal
A roach fishing session on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal took an unexpected twist when Lee Kerry hooked and successfully landed this 25lb 12oz pike.
The Preston Innovations rod had been enjoying a practice outing on the prolific Thorne section of the Yorkshire waterway and had managed to put over 20lb of roach in the net on waggler tactics in three hours sport.
With the light closing in he hooked another redfin which was snapped up by a big pike and after a tense ten minute battle in which a boat also ploughed through his swim it was in the net.
“The size 18 hook had lodged in between its teeth and it’s a miracle the rig didn’t break as I was only using an 0.09mm hooklink!” explained Lee.
Tunnel Barn Farm record smashed
Commercial fishery expert Pete Rice showed his class once again when he smashed a Tunnel Barn Farm record with 188lb 5oz during the latest contest.
The Bag’em Matchbaits man drew peg 46 on High Pool and broke the lake best by using pellet on two lines to net a mixture of carp and F1s.
Second placed John Berry needed 123lb 9oz while the lowest weight taken by the 33 man field was 79lb!
Martin Salter wins Hampshire Avon match
Angling Trust official Martin Salter showed he is no slouch on the river bank as he took victory during the latest Avon Roach Project and Barbel Society benefit match on the Hampshire Avon.
The rules dictated the angler taking the biggest fish would be handed the silverware and the former Labour MP took the honours after he netted a 7lb 11oz barbel on the pellet feeder.
Both causes also boosted their coffers thank to the efforts of the competitors, with over £5,000 being raised.
Big match bags taken on in-form River Wye
One of the most prolific winter stretches of running water in the country has started to creep into form as Andrew Murphy found out when he won the latest match on it with 59lb 4oz.
The River Wye at Hereford is a haven for huge shoals of various species during the winter months and the Wizards rod utilised floatfished maggots during the Joe Bowers Memorial match to land barbel, chub and dace.
Several good causes also benefitted from the 90-peg event, with almost £500 being raised for charity.
Jones bags Brookside Fisheries hat trick
It can take years of practice to become a dominant force on any fishery but Paul Jones proved he has cracked the key to success at Cheshire’s Brookside Fisheries by netting three victories in a week.
The Bait-Tech ace kicked off the winning streak with a 93lb 4oz mixed haul from peg 49 on the Snake Pit and added another triumph to his tally just days later with an 87lb 10oz catch from peg 28.
He rounded off the hat-trick against a strong field when he alternated between pellet and maggot for 70lb 14oz of F1s and carp from peg 17.
Woodland View match raises £11k for charity
A highly respected charity is £11,000 better off thanks to the efforts of a group of anglers during a recent event at a top commercial complex.
House building firm Barratt West Midlands arranged the competition at Droitwich’s Woodland View Fishery to raise funds for the Acorn’s Children Hospice and over 50 fishermen turned up to help the cause.
Several contractors of the business also made generous donations and it Advanced Cleaning’s George Reynolds that dominated on the fishing front, taking 135lb 7oz to top the table.
Bonus carp wins Trent match
One fish can send a match angler from bottom of the pile to top of the pack as Roly Moses found out when he banked a winning 14lb carp during the latest event on the River Trent.
The Brigg AC man was struggling to attract bites from his peg at South Clifton, but he soon overtook his rivals when the big common fell for a worm hookbait presented on the feeder.
Several small roach and perch were added to give him a 15lb 13oz total which was more than enough to push Dave Ashmore’s 9lb 6oz mixed haul into second place.
Huge haul taken from Alders Farm
Alders Farm has built up a solid reputation as a top bagging water but Josh Blavins turned it up another notch when he hauled out 446lb during the latest event.
After drawing peg 28 on the Match Lake at the Milton Keynes complex, the GOT Baits man used corn both on the short pole line and down the margins to fool carp to 8lb at regular intervals.

Sanders bags Bury Hill bream win
Daiwa Dorking captain Steve Sanders took time out from his team commitments to fish the latest open event at Surrey’s Bury Hill Fisheries and managed to take victory with 101lb of bream.
After drawing peg 11, the KC Angling co-owner decided to fish an expander pellet over a bed of micros on the long pole line and netted slabs to 5lb and a solitary 4lb tench.
Runner up Terry Harrison rotated between the groundbait feeder and pole for his 90lb haul of bream.
Tunnel Barn Farm record shattered
Tunnel Barn Farm regular Paul Newell put his favoured bread approach to good use during the latest event at the Warwickshire complex to smash the New Pool record with 244lb 1oz.
While most of his rivals used pellet, maggot or corn, the Smithy’s Tackle man used breadflake over a sloppy feed to attract F1s, carp and bream at regular intervals from peg 18.
Arm aching action was also experienced by the rest of the frame with runner up Ronnie Biggs taking 159lb 11oz and third placed Shaun Little placed 138lb 9oz on the scales.
Anglers share 220lb of silvers at Bough Beech
The top three of the latest event at Bough Beech Reservoir shared over 220lb of fish between them …..and there wasn’t a carp to be seen!
Leading the way with 87lb 3oz was Andy Cummings who used the groundbait feeder with worms to take bream to 4lb at regular intervals.
Runner-up Rob Williams also attracted plenty of quality slabs and roach to record 80lb 2oz, while third spot was occupied by Sean Barnet who took 59lb 8oz.
Dudsbury lands £1,000 Fisho Maniac glory
The latest big money event at Devon’s Stafford Moor went right to the wire but it was Neil Dudsbury who eventually got the nod and recorded 97lb 14oz to win the £1,000 top prize.
After making the long journey from his Derbyshire home to compete in the annual Fisho Maniac match, he drew peg 13 on Tanners and alternated between the bomb and waggler up in the water to keep carp to 8lb coming to the net.
Lee Jan was left to rue a couple of lost fish and fell agonisingly short of taking the glory with his 96lb 14oz haul taken from peg 16.
Landsend Fishery record smashed
The venue record at one of the South West’s most popular commercials has been smashed after Tony Rixon netted 351lb 10oz during his latest session on the bank.
The Mosella Avon Angling man paid Somerset’s Landsend Fishery a visit and was into action from the starting whistle and ended up placing over 60 carp into the net from peg 19.
GOT Baits man Tony Page was never in contention to win but still broke the double ton and secured second spot with 227lb 13oz.
