33lb common from Farriers Lakes
Despite the drop in temperature Lee Colling has continued to keep the bites coming from the Carp Society’s Farriers Lakes – this stunning 33lb common his latest prize.
With the fish becoming increasingly wary of the more regularly fished spots on the venue, the midlands-based Century consultant targeted a small hole in a weedbed at 40 yards range.
“The bites had pretty much dried up from the other spots I’d been fishing,” Lee told Angling Times.
“The water is crystal clear at the moment and the bite time has changed with a few fish starting to come out in the middle of the afternoon as opposed to the usual early morning 6am – 10am feeding period. This has combined to make the fishing a lot trickier.
“I baited the area lightly as the fish also seem to have become very cautious of big beds of bait, so I only put out 6 Mini Spombs filled with crushed Mainline Cell boilies glugged in a matching dip for added attraction.”
To ensure that his hookbait matched his free offerings Lee mounted a trimmed-down boilie tipped with a piece of plastic corn on a simple blow-back rig constructed from an eight inch ESP Strip Teaze Brown hooklink and a size 6 ESP Curve Shanx barbless hook.
