Sixty eight anglers attended the first Mega 'Match This' qualifier of the 2013 campaign. A hard frost the night before and the persistent cold weather leading up to the qualifier resulted in a difficult days fishing for most. However, despite the conditions, carp were still caught shallow and in the margins.

Winner on the day, and the first angler to guarantee his place in the 2013 Mega 'Match This' final was Maver's own Ray Lamb. Ray drew peg 4 on High pool and fished pole and long down the inside at 14m and short at 6m to finish the match with 55-09-00.

Lee Thornton finished runner-up on the day from peg 38 on Arles pool. Lee opted to fish pellet and corn at 16m to weigh in 54-13-00, qualifying for the British Pole Championships.

Maver Midlands Captain Wayne Mellings took third place with 43-13-00 from from peg 8 on Arles pool. Wayne caught shallow fishing a pellet waggler to return 43-13-00.

The last of the Maver British Pole Championship placings went to Jamie Hughes (Maver / Bag 'Em Baits). Jamie drew peg 33 on High pool and finished the match with 34lbs exactly fishing corn and pellet long at 16m.

Seventy eight anglers attended the 2013 Gold Valley lakes Mega 'Match This' qualifier. Conditions leading up to the qualifier were far from ideal with temperatures most nights of the week dropping below freezing coupled with bitterly cold easterly winds during the days. However, there was a slight improvement for this Sunday qualifier with periods of sunshine making things feel slightly warmer.

Winner on the day, and booking his place in the 2013 Mega 'Match This' final was Mark Goddard (Daiwa Dorking). Mark drew end peg 119 on Syndicate lake and opted to fish a small method feeder at approx. twenty metres alternating between a variety of small hook baits to keep fish coming to the net. Mark finished the match with sixteen carp giving him a weight of 78-10-00 and a comfortable win.

Second place was taken by Daiwa Dorking team Captain, Stephen Sanders. Steve drew peg 63 on Middle lake and fished a straight bomb with corn on the hook to land nine quality carp for a weight of 67-12-00.

Lee Carver finishing in third place from peg 77, also on Middle lake. Lee alternated between a method feeder and straight lead. Lee struggled to find the fish at first, but caught late on to finish the match with 64-06-00.

Preston Innovations rod and former Mega 'Match This' Champion Andy Power took fourth place on the day from peg 142 on Syndicate lake. Andy was looking likely to qualify for the big money again with many anglers on the day being of the opinion he was winning the match during the opening stages. However, despite finding some truly huge carp (his first three fish weighed 40lbs between them!), Andy was unable to topple Mark's winning weight finishing with seven carp for 64-03-00.

Gold Valley Lakes sponsored David Coulton finished in fifth place on the day, thus securing a place in the Maver British Pole Championships, from peg 54 on Middle lake. Dave fished a straight lead to finish the match with 44-14-00 narrowly beating venue expert Will Raison, who finished tied with Dean Lock on 40-04-00 from peg 117 on Syndicate lake.
