Quest for a 4lb perch ends in success

ANDY Loble’s quest for a 4lb-plus perch came to a triumphant conclusion with the capture of this 4lb 4oz fish from a Sussex stillwater.

The Shoreham-by-Sea-based rod has banked 50 twos and eight over 3lb, but a specimen topping the magical 4lb barrier had previously eluded him. That changed, however, when he legered a prawn hookbait soaked in a CC Moore liquid flavouring.

“I must have spent a fortune on maggots, worms and additives, not to mention the hours I’ve put in through the snow, rain and howling winds,” said Andy. “But I can breathe a huge sigh of relief now that I’ve finally banked my dream perch.”

Andy beat his prize with a running rig comprising 6lb mainline, a 4.4lb fluorocarbon hooklink and a size 6 barbless hook.
