Second biggest rudd ever banked

Evidence has come to light to suggest one of the biggest rudd ever landed in the UK has been taken from a small farm pond.

Keen coarse angler Ian Watling gained permission to fish the tiny Norfolk-water close to his home in June last year and was left shell-shocked after he banked a 4lb 8oz specimen along with another of a similar size.

The surprise catch came during an outing with his young son and was banked after it fell for a bunch of maggots presented on a 6m whip.

“We’d been catching a few small fish then all of a sudden this huge rudd was in the net. It just goes to show that waters off the beaten track are capable of producing record-shaking fish,” explained Ian.
