1lb 1oz dace from River Stour

A trotting session on the River Stour produced this 1lb 1oz dace, plus others of 14oz and 11oz for Scott Cordingley.

He smashed his personal best for the small species twice in the four hour session on a small 100m stretch of the waterway in Canterbury, and also landed chub, perch and eels.

“On my last cast of the day I hit an angry, fast moving fish on 3lb line, I thought it was a small chub. Only when I landed it did I realise it was a good dace and I was shocked when the scales went past the 1lb mark,” said Scott, who fish maggot baits on a size 18 hook under a 1g Drennan stickfloat.

The British record dace is a 1lb 5oz fish caught by Simon Ashton from the River Wear in 2002.
