Schoolboy banks huge 3lb 9oz rudd

Many specimen anglers spend a lifetime trying to catch a 3lb-plus rudd, but 7-year-old Kian Dyble achieved the impressive feat with this cracking 3lb 9oz specimen.

Targeting the River Witham with his dad, Wayne, the Lincolnshire-based schoolboy fished red maggots on a size 18 hook while feeding bread and sweetcorn close to a set of lily pads.

His first bite produced a small bream, but when his float buried for a second time he struck in to the huge rudd.

His dad, Wayne, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw the fish. Big rudd aren’t exactly common, so I was really proud of Kian, but also a little jealous!”
