Two personal bests in two days

A brace of mirrors gave Tommy Flower two personal bests in two days and haul of more than 80lb.

The pair of mirrors, weighing 39lb 14oz and 42lb exactly, came from the Kracking Carp Lake at Anglers Paradise in Devon.

Tommy said: “I broke my PB twice in two days and caught my first English 40! It turned out to be a session of a lifetime, and when you’re here you know it truly is paradise!”

Explaining how he caught the fish, Tommy said: “I baited up with a handful of Skretting Elite SP pellets and some crumbed Receptor TT boilies, and repeated this until the fish came along.  After an epic battle I had the smaller of the two mirrors sulking in the bottom of my net. On the scales it smashed my PB and spun the needle right round to 39lb 14oz. I was blown away!

“A couple of days later, a big mirror stuck its head out in the little bay to my left in the margin. I carefully lowered a multi rig down on to the spot and baited with a handful of pellet and crumb. Half an hour later the monster mirror couldn't resist the pink R-1 pop-up and I was soon doing battle once again.

“There were a few hairy moments as it charged through the weed but everything went smoothly and soon a mirror of epic proportions slipped over the cord. My legs turned to jelly and my heart was beating out of my chest as I peered into the net. There she was, The Gorilla! What a fish, and on the scales she registered 42lb.”
