F1's On The Feed At Hull's Westland Lakes

The F1’s have been on the feed at Westland’s Lakes and anglers have been cashing in with bags over 50lb from the complex’s Little Tench and Island Ponds. However, visitors have also been enjoying some cracking sport on the other five day-ticket lakes with big bream and big tench starting to feature on the Tench Pool.

On the 25-peg Little Tench Pool, anglers have been feeding pellet or maggots, little and often via a kinder to catch the F1’s which average around 2-3lb along with ide, skimmers and odd big carp also feeding. Elastics don’t need to be too strong on this lake as most fish average around 1-4lb. Meanwhile on the 25-peg, match-style Island Pool, visitors have been bagging up too. This pool is similarly stocked to Little Tench with mainly F1’s being landed by anglers fishing waggler or pole tight to the islands. The islands are situated at around 13m with around 2ft of water or down the edge. You can target these areas using hookbaits like corn or pellets to good effect. Paste will only start to work as it warms further.

If you prefer more of a bend in your rod you have a go on the Big Tench Pond. Tinca’s go to 10lb in here and there are also bream to well over 5lb. Anglers tend to fish the margins with worm and corn in spring but the tench move to the deeper swims around pegs 10-15 on brighter days during summer.

TIP: On the Little Tench and Island Pools, try using hard banded pellet in summer to avoid hooking smaller fish.
