New world record fly-caught arapaima?

British angler Rich Hart has landed what could set a new world record for arapaima.

The globetrotting fishing fanatic, who now lives in Orlando, Florida, won the battle with the 416lb giant while targeting Guyana’s River Rewa in South America.

If approved by the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA), it would set a new IGFA all tackle world record, beat the official best by over 80lb and it’s a catch that also qualifies for the biggest freshwater fish ever caught on fly fishing tackle.

It is not the first time Rich has etched his name into fishing’s history books as he’s already secured  20 IGFA world records, with 16 of those coming in 2014 alone.
