41-fish haul tops incredible week for tench!
Now is the perfect time to target a tench, with reports of big hauls of the species across the UK as the temperatures soared.
A couple of weeks ago anglers would be happy to have netted just a couple of tincas in a session, but now they are enjoying multiple catches during both day and overnight sessions.
The largest reported haul fell to Tenchfishers member Dean Taylor who incredibly took 41 fish to 8lb 2oz during a 48-hour session.
Southern counties Kent, Oxfordshire and Hampshire are all renowned for their tench potential but Dean accumulated his catch from Lymm Angling Club’s Lymmvale water in Cheshire.
He told Angling Times: “It was an absolutely fantastic session, and even more so considering I didn’t fish during the night!
“My routine consisted of waking up at 4am, baiting my spot, fishing it, sleeping and then repeating the process the next day.
“I must have had four or five double hook-ups which was hectic, but absolutely enjoyable at the same time.”
All Dean’s tench fell to rigs incorporating chopped worm hookbaits in conjunction with Korum Combi Feeders filled with more chopped worm, peat and a groundbait mix.
He then cast his rigs to a clear plateau on the lake and introduced regular helpings of casters, chopped worms, hemp and krill groundbait via a Spomb to help draw in the fish.
