Anglers catch swordfish on camera on the South coast
Lure fishing fan Adam Kirby almost hooked into what he believes was a huge swordfish – just a mile off the English coast!
The fish, typically found in tropical and temperate areas of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, made a beeline for the Portsmouth angler’s lure while he and pal Chris Wheeler were fishing for plaice out of Selsey, West Sussex.
“Chris spotted a huge fish off the stern,” said Adam. “It was about 6ft long. Instinctively I cast at it with insanely inappropriate tackle and it turned and followed the lure at speed.
“I will never forget the electric blue back as it glided under the boat. We were both left shaking with excitement.”
