Bob Church memorial

A SOLID oak memorial bench has been installed at Northampton’s Pitsford Reservoir in honour of angling legend Bob Church. One of Britain’s best loved and influential all-round fishermen, Bob passed away in September 2019, and shortly afterwards Chris Berry, who owns Northampton’s Wellingborough Lakes, set up a memorial fund that raised £1,330.

“We needed to pay tribute to the great man,” Chris reveals,

“so I approached the manager of Pitsford about erecting a memorial bench in Bob’s honour. Stuart Wilson, a member at my fishing lakes who makes bespoke kitchens, then stepped in and helped build the bench.”

The completed bench sits outside the reservoir’s fishing lodge, below a plaque listing Bob’s many angling achievements.

“Bob used to fish for pike at Wellingborough and was always a hero of mine,” adds Chris. “We hope that anyone who sits on the bench will take a minute to remember a true legend.”
