Does glugging pop-up hookbaits affect their buoyancy?
MITCH HAMMONDS:
It does, which is why it is important to moderate the amount of liquid you put on them and be aware of the type too. A bait glug is a thick, heavy liquid and will make the baits less buoyant. It takes longer to soak in and penetrate the outer core, but over time, if left to soak, they will become much heavier.
When using thicker glugs I tend to use just a light glaze. I have found that the thinner liquids, such as the sprays, are much better suited to this. They are much lighter, stronger flavoured and you don’t need as much to boost the pop-ups. This liquid won’t affect the buoyancy, unless you completely drown them in it.
