British record bream dead

The British record bream has been found dead.

The huge specimen was caught in May this year at a weight of 20lb 2oz from an Oxfordshire gravel pit by Simon Lavin, and it was the same angler who found the fish dead in the margins of the venue.

It is believed that the bream died of old age.

An even bigger bream of 22lb 9oz was caught by Mark McKenna in September 2009 from Ferry Lagoon in Cambridgeshire, but he never put in an official record claim as he was fishing for carp at the time.
