Grand Union Canal proves big pike potential

MARK Mole joined a growing number of specialist anglers who are proving the potential of the nation’s canals when he banked this pristine 18lb 12oz pike.

With his local rivers out of sorts, the Birmingham-based angler turned his attention to the Grand Union Canal at Lapworth, Warks, and fished towards a group of moored up boats.

“I thought the cover of the boats might have attracted some smaller prey fish which in turn would bring the predators in to the area,” he said.

His theory was proved correct when his floatfished lamprey hookbait was picked up by the biggest pike he has ever caught from the venue.
