44 cats for 2,000lb from River Ebro!

Jon Neafcy had a trip to remember on Spain’s River Ebro when he landed almost 2,000lb of catfish in a week.

The 41-year-old from Wigan banked a total of 44 fish, including monsters of 174lb and 149lb, which came just minutes apart. During a guided trip with Paul Fagan of Ebro Fishing Dreams, Jon fished squid and pellet baits with Free Spirit Cat Tamer rods and 100lb braid. The Pike Pro and Baitbox consultant said that an inspired move put him amongst the huge Ebro predators.

“We’d caught lots of catfish to 80lb on a private stretch but we hadn’t hooked any of the big ones over the magical 100lb-mark, so we moved up the river. The first fish I had was the 174, then I had the 149 immediately after, it was crazy. Both fish put up a fantastic fight in the flow!” he said.
