Blue shark taken on the fly

This 60lb fly caught blue shark gave Gerard Smyth a day remember aboard Irish charter vessel Kiwi Girl.

The huge specimen was part of a haul of 20 blues weighing up to 165lb caught by skipper Declan Kilgannon and his crew during the trip, while fishing in the Donegal Bay area in North West Ireland. Gerard tempted his fish using a specially designed, Chasing Silver predator fly while all the other sharks were landed using the standard bait fish approach.
