Jig lures 3lb 6oz river perch from tree roots
A new stretch of river produced the goods for Dan Sales when he banked this mint-conditioned 3lb 6oz perch.
Due to hot, bright conditions the Fox-backed specimen hunter walked the banks of the River Ouse looking for areas of bankside cover and eventually discovered a promising clump of tree roots on the near bank.
The Herts-based specialist cast a small jig around the feature for five minutes before the perch hit it. “It took me a while to get this fish to take the bait, but I wouldn’t have coaxed it out of the snags with any other method because I was able to get right in to the roots,” Dan told Angling Times.
He used six kilo Fox Rage Jig Silk, an 8lb fluorocarbon leader and a 5 gram jig head.
