World record smashed!

The British carp-match and world record has been smashed by arguably the country’s most in-form angler.

Harry Charrington paired up with Alexei Bygrave to land 277 carp for a total weight of 3,132lb 11oz in just 48 hours at Drayton Reservoir in Northamptonshire.

The weight, which eclipses the previous British best of 2,829lb 3oz set at the same venue in June, was more than enough to see the pair win the second Eric’s Carp Championship semi-final.

As we went to press, Harry is still involved in the three biggest carp-match events in the country –UK Carp Cup, BCAC and Eric’s Carp Championship – after an astonishing run of form this summer.

The Fox digital media co-ordinator said: “All the fish came off the surface. We were fishing with controller floats throughout the day and night.

“There was a period between 10pm and midnight on the first night when I don’t think we caught any fish, but when we were catching we were disappointed if we didn’t have four fish on at once.

“We didn’t sleep at all and were on our feet all the time, so it was ridiculously tiring. By the end my feet were swollen, I could barely walk and I had some painful chaffing! Just trying to motivate yourself to keep catching was tough, but when we knew we could break the record that spurred us on. The biggest fish was probably about 17lb and the average was around 11lb.”
