Norfolk man lands 700lb Fraser River sturgeon

The annual salmon run has begun on Canada’s Fraser River prompting the start of the sturgeon fishing season - and for Norfolk based angler Stuart Attenborough it meant doing battle with a 700lb specimen.

The river at Chilliwack, British Columbia, attracts hundreds of anglers from across the globe every year in search of monsters in excess of 1,000lb but Stuart was happy with his first visit to the venue and banking this giant fish.

It took him more than an hour and a half to land and measured around 10ft in length with a 59ins girth. Meanwhile, Angling Direct owner and friend of Stuart, Martyn Page also got in on the action, landing as many as nine fish in a day averaging over 150lb.

Although this time of year is the best for targeting the species, sturgeon can be caught from the Fraser at any time. If you fancy locking horns with some of the biggest freshwater fish in the world, contact Sportsquest on: 01603 407596.
