How to catch big canal chub

Angling Times can this week unveil the country's best big-fish canal, following a succession of large chub in the 5lb to 6lb class reported in matches and pleasure fishing sessions.

The Staffs-Worcester canal has seen an explosion of chub in recent years after the species was initially stocked 15 years ago by Wolverhampton Angling Association, which controls much of its 46-mile total length.

One of the best stretches is the Awbridge length near the village of Trysull, between Wolverhampton and Bridgnorth, where there have been rumours of a 7lb 2oz chub.

One man who knows the potential of this canal is Garbolino-sponsored Scott Geens, who once caught a chub here during the Division 1 National weighing 6lb 4oz.
