How to catch big weights of chub
Angling Times can this week lift the lid on the country's greatest chub lake, after the angler we sent to tackle it caught 86 chub to 4lb for 150lb!
The venue is Mill Road Lakes, in Skegness, Lincolnshire, and following winning catches of 99lb and 104lb to local man Ken Twigg, we sent one of the country's top matchmen, Steve Winter, to show how to crack it.
It is the water's Square Lake which has been red hot recently and this is where Steve, a member of the Maver Bait-Tech squad, set up.
He knew that Kewn had caught all his fish on the bottom, feeding heavily with maggots and hemp, so this was to be his plan A but, like all good anglers, he was prepared to change tactics to suit conditions and the way the fish were responding to the bait.
In this video below, Steve shows exactly how he goes about catchign these chub, detailing his rigs, feeding tactics and techniques.
