'Accidental' French tench banked
Most anglers travel to France to target big carp, but Dave Smalley has given food for thought to UK specimen anglers when he accidently netted this double-figure tench (above).
The Staffordshire angler was on a week-long carping trip to Vallee Lakes in Normandy when the giant olive-coloured specimen took a liking to his two pieces of popped-up maize fished on a combi rig.
The fish sets a new personal best for Dave, who also bagged a 48lb 4oz mirror carp during the final evening of the trip to round off a successful journey.
