Tony Bennett’s decision to use boilies to target big roach on his local canal paid off handsomely when this 2lb 10oz specimen devoured his 15mm offering. 

The 32-year-old from Doncaster prebaited with corn the previous day and returned with 1.75lb Korum specimen rods, 10lb mainline and an 8lb fluorocarbon hooklink in readiness for a big redfin.

He said: “It’s a new personal best, and the first roach of this size that I’ve heard of being caught from canals in this part of the country.”
