Big eel quest ends with 5lb 10oz fish
A two-year quest to land a big eel ended in style for Nick Hughes when he won the battle with this 5lb 10oz fish.
Nick has been fishing exclusively for eels throughout the summer, with only small fish to show for his efforts, but he finally struck gold at a Midlands stillwater with the five-pounder, that sets a new personal best.
A John Sidley rig baited with a roach section sparked the all-important take for the 34-year-old from Worcestershire.
“There have been times during the last two years when I’ve questioned what I’m doing, because fishing for big eels is really, really tough,” said Nick.
“I’d go seven or eight sessions without a bite, and I have spent lots of money, but this fish makes it all worthwhile.”
He beat the eel with a 45lb Kryston hooklink and a size 6 long shank hook.
