Tough stillwater produces 11 double-figure bream

Spring might arrived late, but that didn’t stop avid specimen hunter Danny Taylor and his mate Paul Houghton getting in on some short and sweet bream action.

Over a two day session the pair managed 11 double figure fish from a tricky Northern stillwater – topped by a 14lb specimen landed by Paul. Danny who had fish to 13lb told AT: “It’s been a difficult spring due to the bad winter, we’ve been a few weeks behind and the bream have only just moved into their spawning grounds, which is where they go on the feed.”

The pair used legering tactics over a spombed bed of groundbait and pellets. Rigs comprised of 10lb Drennan Gravel Braid and a size 10 Korda Wide Gape hook, with a combination of corn stacks or 10mm boilies tipped with fake maggots as hookbaits.

Danny also said: “The catch came in the nick of time, as the bream spawned over the bank holiday weekend. Normally we enjoy several weeks of good bream fishing, but this year it was short and sweet being condensed into a few short days.”
