Huge canal carp landed
Years of hard work and determination paid dividends for Dan Sales when he fished a piece of bread to catch this 32lb 2oz mirror carp from a canal.
He and good friend Gavin Mooney have walked hundreds of miles over the last few summers in search of big canal carp, and Dan struck gold when the specimen was beaten on a simple rig made from a 10lb mainline, a fluorocarbon leader and a size 4 VMC Mystic Carp wide gape hook.
Bait was what Dan described as ‘a big chunk of Hovis’.
“We’ve walked hundreds of miles and relentlessly worked together to find fish, feed them and then make a cast in the hope of a bite,” said Dan.
“Most of our sessions have been completely fruitless, but it makes this all the sweeter.
“It’s this teamwork and hard work that’s made this capture so rewarding.”
Dan hails from Hertfordshire, and he caught the fish from a southern canal.
