A double after dawn
There couldn’t be a better time to catch a big tench – and a simple maggot feeder rig was the key to the capture of this 10lb 12oz specimen.
It was located after Kent angler Nate Green saw tench rolling over an area 41 yards from the banks of a southern gravel pit, and Nate went on to bank it an hour after first light.
His maggot feeder was attached to a helicopter rig cast over a bed of red maggots, pellets and Dynamite Baits Hempseed & Snails.
The winning hookbaits for the fish, his third double-figure tench, were hair-rigged worms fished on a size 12 hook.
“I found a nice firm patch on the bottom over where I initially saw the tench rolling and used a Spomb to get the bait on the spot,” he said.
“This is my second-biggest tench… I’m chuffed to bits.”
