Huge zander from a canal
Canal predators don’t come much bigger than this cracking 16lb zander caught by electronics engineerJacob Wise.
The 38-year-old caught the beast from the Gloucester Canal in the South West, where he tempted it on a sprat deadbait on a scaled-down wire trace mounted on a simple running leger rig.
The angler from Stonehouse, Glos, who broke his previous best of 14lb 6oz with the catch, said: “It’s the third time I have caught this species and strangely they have all been caught when there has been a full moon.
“The zander in this canal tend to prefer the deeper open water than the shallow marginal areas.”
