Record-shaking 44lb pike from Chew Valley
“Another trout and it would have been a record” – so said pike angler Peter Coxhead following his capture of a record-shaking 44-pounder.
The monster predator was boated at the end of a three-day session on renowned pike water Chew Valley Reservoir.
The Portsmouth angler tempted the giant, one of the biggest pike from the Somerset venue this season, on a floatfished herring.
Despite visiting the reservoir in previous years, this is the first pike over 20lb that Pete has landed from the venue.
He told Angling Times: “Me and my boat partner Kevin Beer had been really struggling over the three days and only tried lures, so with just an hour left I thought I would try a deadbait – and it worked.”
