Hybrid rig lands true crucian

A pole rig presented under a float rod resulted in the capture of this 4lb 1oz crucian.

The fin-perfect specimen is a personal best for Korum-backed Ed Matthews from Shropshire, who grabbed a couple of hours on a lake in Sutton, Surrey.

The fish also sets a new record for the venue and came during a session that also produced a 26lb mirror carp on the feeder with an 8mm Sonubaits Oozing boilie hookbait.

“A pole float offers great bite detection when it comes to catching shy-biting fish like crucian carp,” said Ed

“I just had a few hours fishing before I picked the kids up from nursery and I’m so glad I did.”
