Off to a flyer with big tench

Matthew Fernandez’s first spring tench session of the year got off to a flyer with this 8lb 8oz specimen. He targeted a southern stillwater and fished maggot feeders over a bed of Dynamite Baits krill and betaine groundbait mixed with krill pellets and hemp. His rig was a Drennan maggot feeder fished helicopter style, a 3ins hooklink to a size 12 Drennan hook and three fake casters on the hair.

Oxford angler Paul Calow had a session to remember with Drennan Cup Champ Dai Gribble, banking his biggest-ever tench. He and angling tutor Dai visited Manor Lake, part of the Linear Fisheries complex, and it didn’t take Paul long to beat a 7lb 8oz pb with tench of 7lb 8oz, 8lb 1oz, 8lb 15oz and a male of 7lb 2oz. All were taken on feeder tactics and a combination of imitation maggots or worms. To find out more about Dai’s angling tuition services visit: www.daigribbleangling.com
