How to pole fish with meat

If you really want to catch more huge carp when pole fishing with luncheon meat, watch the video below!

An angler who has framed in every match he has entered at a popular commercial complex has revealed that his success is down to using huge meat hook baits usually associated with the bivvy boys.

Bag 'em Baits ace Myles Levy has been in unstoppable form at Somerset's Viaduct Fishery and has managed to record weights close to the magical double ton a number of times in recent weeks.

While the rest of his opponents have been opting for a traditional pellet approach, Myles has been using several 8mm and 10mm cubes of meat to regularly lure lumps to over 20lb into the net.

To find out exactly how he does it, we met up with him on the banks of the famous fishery and captured his tactics on film.

How to use sloppy groundbait

IMG_6461.JPG

An angler who has bagged four match wins in a fortnight and landed almost 600lb in the process has revealed that feeding a deadly sloppy groundbait mix whips the carp shoals into a feeding frenzy.

Leigh Tackle and Bait ace Chris Weeder Jnr has dominated events at Blundells Fishery since he devised the cunning approach, so to find out more Angling Times met up with him on Trio Pool at the Cheshire complex.

An even blend of Sonubaits Tiger Fish and Ringers Dark was introduced into a large bowl and whisked together with plenty of water to create the perfect sloppy groundbait that carp love.

Chris revealed his techniques for fishing with slop here in the video below.

How to fly fish for big pike

Fly fishing for pike is the fastest growing tactic in the UK, with interest rocketing by more than 100 per cent in the last season.

Tackle shop figures show a huge boom in this fishing style as more and more companies develop gear specifically designed for the species.

The popularity is driven by the sheer size of pike that live in trout waters and the exhilaration of catching predators on such a direct and 'tactile' method.

Here we met up with a huge fan of pike fishing with fly tackle - John Miller - on a vast Midlands reservoir to find out the tackle he uses to catch big pike on fly fishing tackle.

How to catch big margin carp

Mega-weight match angler Steve Gregory has developed a new pellet crumb feed and sieve pot system which 'swishes' in the water to create the ultimate carp-attracting cloud.

The deadly new combination recently helped him to victory in the Solhampton Fishery May Festival for the second year running, where he banked 632lb of carp in a week, averaging 126lb of fish per day.

MAP-backed Steve uses his famous Miracle Paste on the hook - a bait which once helped him to break the British match record three times - enjoying some frantic sport down the margins feeding his new 'slop'.

The Valley Lake at Solhampton, a five-lake complex near Stourport in Worcestershire, is Steve's favourite water for this method, and provided him with a winning 173lb 10oz in the festival. It was here were he was eager to show the virtues of fishing this new technique and bait.

How to catch carp using polony sausage

To keep catching carp in the colder months requires something a little bit special, and that's just what regulars at Lincolnshire's Moon Lakes have found to keep those bites coming thick and fast.

They have been catching on one of the cheapest supermarket baits available, and have been having great hauls of early spring carp using as little as 10p worth of bait.

And the bait that's been doing all the damage? It's polony sausage.

One angler who fishes the venue regularly and has been catching well when using this spicey bait is Dean Smith.

He recently caught an incredible 99lb using the simplest of techniques and this soft and tasty killer bait.

In this short video below, Dean explains the principle behind using the bait and the tactics he employs to catch his large weights of coldwater carp.

How to use raw meat to catch big chub and barbel

To keep catching quality chub and barbel from any river in the midst of winter takes some doing, so when we had a chance to meet Mark Perkins on the banks of the Newark Dyke to see how he does it, we couldn't refuse.

He's had a string of huge winter chub and barbel from both the Newark Dyke and the main River Trent using his unique bait approach.

Rather than struggle through the winter using the baits that anglers have used throughout the year, Mark switches to using a variety of raw meats - something he learned was extremely successful during the 1980s.

In this explanatory video below, Mark details the exact bait approach he adopts and shows just how to get the most from his bloody array of fish attractors...

How to mix a carp Method feeder mix

Method feeder fishing groundbaits tend to attract the average stamp of carp in any commercial stillwater. Why? Simply because the carp tend to have seen them all before, smelt them all before, and have tasted them all before.

So, in order to attract and catch the much bigger carp that might be swimming around the lake, something extra special has to be created that will draw the attentions of the bigger fish.

And that's exactly what Grant Albutt has created - a simply brilliant Method mix that is created from The Cell boilies and boilie-making ingredients.

It's certainly not a cheap Method mix to create, but having seen this in action, it is like a magnet to all the bigger fish in the water.

It is, quite frankly, devastating!
