How to use deadbaits for pike
Deadbait fishing for pike is an artform in itself, and when done successfully it can lead to catching the bigger pike in the lake, river or canal.
Jan Porter is a big fan of fishing deadbaits, and can't wait until the leaves turn brown and fall gracefully to the floor as that marks the perfect time to get armed with frozen and fresh baits and head out to catch a few big pike.
We caught up with Jan on the banks of a vast stillwater to find out how best to approach deadbait fishing for pike, what tackle is required, the bite indication necessary and the type of baits that work best.
And on top of that, Jan's alarms screamed and he managed to bank a few doubles too!
How to lure fish for pike and predators
If you are thinking of taking up lure fishing for pike, zander or perch, but you aren't sure what to do or which type of reel is best, this great video is for you!
We met up with Jan Porter aboard a boat to talk about the two main set-ups for fishing with lures - a fixed spool reel coupled with a short lure rod, and a multiplier reel married to a stiffer, more powerful jerkbait style rod.
Jan discusses how to get the very best from either of these two set-ups and goes into detail about the advantages of each.
He also shows you how best to fish with the four main types of lures too, providing a superb in-depth guide on how to get the very best from lures and lure fishing tackle.

How to unhook pike quickly and easily
If you have ever wanted to start pike fishing, but haven't done so because you were unsure about - or even afraid to - unhook pike, this video is definitely for you.
Mick Rouse, Angling Times' chief photographer, is a serious fan of pike and can be found trying to catch them most weeks throughout the Autumn and Winter months.
He's landed countless pike and certainly knows how best to remove the hooks from the jaws of sharp-toothed predators without harming himself or - more importantly - the fish.
In this short video Mick explains which tools are the best for the job, catches a double-figure pike and then shows how to esnure the pike remains still for long enough for you to quickly and efficiently remove those treble hooks.

How to fly fish for big pike
Fly fishing for pike is the fastest growing tactic in the UK, with interest rocketing by more than 100 per cent in the last season.
Tackle shop figures show a huge boom in this fishing style as more and more companies develop gear specifically designed for the species.
The popularity is driven by the sheer size of pike that live in trout waters and the exhilaration of catching predators on such a direct and 'tactile' method.
Here we met up with a huge fan of pike fishing with fly tackle - John Miller - on a vast Midlands reservoir to find out the tackle he uses to catch big pike on fly fishing tackle.

How to use indicators correctly when deadbaiting
Legered deadbaits to catch pike require a certain style of bite registration to ensure that the angler spots the take - of course - and also is sensitive enough to provide the pike a free run of line so it doesn't feel any resistance and drop the bait.
Using bite alarms is by far the most popular method, coupled with two different styles of indicator - a drop-back or drop-off indicator, and a lightweight bobbin-style indicator.
Both are equally effective, as Jan Porter explains in this new and exclusive video filmed on the banks of a vast stillwater while he tackles the lake's pike stocks.

How to pick the right lure for pike and predators
In this new video, Jan Porter provides masses of tips and tactics to help you catch lots more pike, zander and perch using lure fishing tactics.
We caught up with Jan aboard a boat on an old estate lake to find out as much as we can about lures, spinners, plugs and spinnerbaits.
Jan goes into great detail to ensure that you pick the right lure for the conditions and the venue, and also the time of the year taking into account the water temperature and the depth of any sub-surface weed.
He also covers line choice too, and how to make sure any newcomers to lure fishing don't get into any unnecessary problems because of the hook choice and layout.

Monster pike - biggest ever on film
Fifty years in search of a monster pike and when you finally set the hook in your 'dream' the giant slips the treble. Enough to break a man? Not Angling Times' columnist Terry Knight, who went back the following day and hit the jackpot with a 43lb 13oz specimen pike!
Angling Times were there every step of the way to capture the agony and ecstasy of the adventure on film...
Terry was tackling Wykeham Lakes, near Scarborough, a venue that several weeks ago produced a 45lb 14oz pike to local big-fish expert Wyndon Coole.
At a mere 15oz short of breaking the British record, this pike was just one meal, or a belly full of spawn away from smashing the record weight for the species.
The whole incredible story, from start to finish, was captured on film, available below to watch.

New Greys Prowla pike boat fishing rods
Greys have just released a new range of purpose-built predator boat rods under the Prowla banner.
There are two new rods in the range - the 10ft 3in XS boat and the 10ft 6in Platinum boat.
Both have 3lb test curves that allow the easy casting of very large and heavy baits together with the power to control very large and hard fighting pike. But this strength in the blank tapers off to a much finer and more flexible tip that helps cushion those last-minute lunges as the pike tries to shake the hooks free in the dying seconds of the fight.
In this in-the-boat test Angling Times editor Richard Lee and fishing buddy Terry Knight took both examples over to Ireland to put them through their paces during their annual predator lough fishing break.
