Steve Ringer's Life In Angling

_F3A7023%20MAIN.JPG

Rarely a year goes by when Steve Ringer doesn't win a big event, but 2014 saw him win the king of them all.

His World Feeder Champs individual crown went with team gold and yet another White Acres Festival title - smaller wonder, then, that he was voted match angler of the year by our readers!

Polling over 65 per cent of the vote, Northants-based Steve was a runaway winner, his victory in Ireland confirming what many had always thought - that he is one of the best anglers in the world. His modesty means he'll never admit to that, but as his career advances, his performances become more and more assured.

Angling Times met up with the man at home to present him his prize and then retire to his tackle den to pose Steve questions about fishing, being a professional and big-money matches, among other things...

How to use meatballs

Normally associated with catching barbel from rivers, huge meatballs are a brilliant bait for commercial carp too, as match ace Matt Pillay has found.

When tackling commercial waters where large 'target' baits work, a single hair-rigged meatball can be a devastatingly effective bait to use.

The soft and strongly-scented meat is loved by carp of all sizes, including those monsters that rarely get caught and often don't show themselves for months on end.

But it's not just meatballs that Matt has been using to great effect - he's also found that garlic-flavoured sausage is a killer bait too.

There are a few pointers that you need to follow in order to get the most from both of these baits, as Matt details in this new and exclusive video.

How to catch big carp on maggots from a commercial

Andy%20Kidd.jpg

Andy Kidd has been taking his local commercial snake lake apart catching masses of carp using pints of mixed maggots.

The lake contains a huge amount of smaller fish, such as roach, but his feeding technique ensures that the roach don't really get a look in and each time the float goes under, it's another carp on the end.

The venue he's been fishing is The Oaks in North Yorkshire, where pellets are the principle bait for big carp weights. But as the season changes another bait has to be found to keep the carp's interest.

Andy Kidd reveals how he beats the smaller fish to catch impressively large weights of carp from a commercial snake lake using pints of mixed maggots
