Hillview Lakes record smashed by angler in form of his life!
A top match angler has continued his impressive run of form by taking three wins in a week and smashing a venue record in the process at a top commercial.
Daiwa Gordon League rod Steve Ford has been unstoppable at Gloucestershire’s Hillview Fishery and was able to haul out over 500lb in a week, with one match catch alone sending the scales round to 282lb!
“I caught almost all my fish in the margins but I do things a little different to everyone else and that has given me a big edge in recent weeks,” explained Steve.

Makins Fishery set for major revamp
One of the nation’s biggest commercial complexes is being given a major facelift in an effort to draw even more anglers to the site.
Warwickshire’s Dynamite Baits Makins Fishery has long been seen by many as the most prolific set of waters in the land but fishery boss Alan McDiarmid has moved to make it even more appealing by stocking a huge number of carp and announcing a whole host of other ambitious ideas.

Angler lands four different 100lb UK fish in 2011
An angler has taken his place in the history books after catching four different species of fish weighing over 100lb from our seas this year.
Mark Nelson capped his remarkable quartet with a 140lb blue shark, fishing off Andrew Alsop's 'White Water II' out of Milford Haven. This was backed up by a terrific 103lb conger eel, a 147lb porbeagle shark and a 117lb skate.
The welshman admits he gets a buzz from catching 'the biggest fish he possibly can'. For the full story see this week's Angling Times.
Fryerning Fisheries lake record caught at 53lb
The Fryerning Fisheries lake record has been broken by Mark Deighton with his capture of this huge 53lb mirror carp known as The Gurm.
The 44-year-old builder beat his previous pb by 11lb in the process using AM Baits Bounty Hunter boilies.
Mark, who only joined the Essex venue in May this year, said: “Gurm is absolutely amazing. It was quite a strain to lift her out of the lake and on to the bank. She is an incredible carp, really very special.”
Former 'match only' water opens for day tickets
A venue that has used to be reserved solely for match anglers has been opened up to day ticket anglers and the early results have been exceptional.
The water – which is part of a large Midlands complex – has produced match bags to over 320lb in the past and pleasure rods will now be able to get a piece of the action following the decision of the owners to swing the gates open on selects days.
“This is fantastic water with a national reputation and it’s great news for everyone. It is home to hundreds of double figure carp and it’s rare to land anything under 7lb,” explained an excited local.

Cast to showing fish results in 29lb 8oz mirror
This chunky 29lb 8oz mirror was caught by Andy Lyons during a recent session on Culverts Mere in Essex.
The local rod had already landed two commons of 20lb 4oz and 22lb 8oz from a large gravel patch when he saw a decent mirror show in front of the swim next door. He then baited the area with a handful of CarpBaitUK 14mm The Nail boilies and left it for three hours.
After seeing the fish show several more times over the spot he cast out his hookbait and another handful of freebies and only had to wait 10 minutes for his rod to rattle off.
Prices slashed at top specimen carp venue
A commercial complex that caters for specimen carp anglers has announced it is slashing its prices by 25% of the winter period.
Devon’s Stafford Moor is home to Beatties and Joseph’s Lake which are both home to fish over the 30lb mark and venue bosses have revealed a 24hr ticket on these waters will cost £15 as opposed to £20 between now and February.
Pre-booking is essential and more details can be found by visiting www.staffordmoor.co.uk
Alders Farm produces huge winning match weight
The temperatures may be dropping but the sport remains as hot as ever at bagging haven Alders Farm and the consistent Gary Thorpe added another win to his tally by hauling out a back breaking 347-12-0 during the first round of the winter league.
After selecting to fish the Match Lake during the teams of four event, the GOT Baits ace decided to fish pole short with maggot and caster and was into carp from the off.
Sport never dipped during the five hour battle, with Gary landing fish averaging around the 3lb mark on virtually every drop.

Pike with eyes bigger than its belly chokes on carp
It was a meal too far for this greedy pike when a 3lb carp became lodged in its throat.
The 12lb fish which had resided in Hermitage fishery in Clare, Suffolk, came to its end after clearly biting off more than it could chew.
Anglers had caught the pike three times in 2011 – it was one of only two in there which had been stocked by owner David Walker to control numbers of fry.
Cod and bass provide hectic mid-Channel sport
Dover angler Paul Collingwood enjoyed a brilliant mixed bag while fishing aboard his own boat over the Texaco Caribbean shipwreck on the Varne Bank in the middle of the English Channel.
As well as taking a number of bass to a best of 9lb, he also boated this cod weighing 8lb. A red Sidewinder shad proved the winning lure for Paul.
Big perch prove vital to River Mole victory
Big perch were vital to success during the latest event on the River Mole with eventual winner Tony West including a 3lb 5oz specimen in his net.
The Garbolino Banstead ace decided to fish half a lobworm on the long pole over a bed of chopped worm, casters and corn after drawing peg 75 on the North Bank’s famed outfall and was rewarded with the lump along with a brace of 2lb fish and a 4lb bream.
At the weigh Tony managed to record 29lb 8oz to beat Pete Turnbull’s 21lb 8oz into second place.
Arsonists hit top pike water!
The country’s premier pike venue was hit by arsonists last week in a shocking incident that saw the owners left facing a £25,000 repair bill.
Six boats were deliberately set ablaze at Somerset’s Chew Valley Reservoir by as yet unidentified individuals who entered the marina next to the lodge under the cover of darkness and used petrol to start the fire.
Although police investigations are still at an early stage, Chew’s long-serving fishery manager Bob Handford believes the crime could have been carried out by local vandals.
The 60-year-old told Angling Times “Whoever it was poured petrol into the boats and set light to them before making their escape.”

Van Den Eynde Supercup fishing competition 2012 launches
The Van Den Eynde Supercup kicks off this week, the best competition in the club fishing calendar.
More than 300 teams took part in last year’s event, which was won by Birmingham side Smithy’s Angling. The Supercup is a knockout competition, with unsponsored club or tackle shop teams fishing against one or two more sides before progressing to a semi final and then a grand final at Tunnel Barn Farm fishery in July 2012.

Bury Hill Fisheries tench and crucians on the feed
They say you never lose your angling touch and Barry Ryan proved just that when he banked this impressive 80lb plus mixed net during one of his first outings for over 25 years!
The local rod decided to book a tuition day at Bury Hill Fisheries with resident coach Russ Evans and was into fish from the off, with 10 tench, 14 crucians and plenty of small perch falling to maggot and pellet from Milton Lake at the Surrey complex.
Margin spot produces 35lb 14oz mirror
This 35lb 14oz mirror was caught by Bill Phillips during a 48 hour session on Clawford Vineyard’s Tanners Lake in Devon.
The 62-year-old retired production manager fished a Mainline Baits Cell dumbbell over a bed of hemp just two feet out on the marginal slope.
He received the take just before first light and after a decent scrap he beat his prize with a 12ins Kryston Super-Silk hooklink attached to a size 8 Korda Kurv Shank hook.
'Bivvy boys' approach scores for top match ace
A match angler that has taken a leaf out of the ‘bivvy boys’ handbook has been bagging up a weekly basis at a popular commercial fishery.
Dynamite Baits ace Lance Chambers has been unstoppable at a number of venues including Worcestershire’s Larford Lakes and has put his success down to using a bait rarely seen on the side trays of a seatbox.
“While most of those around me are using meat, corn and pellets, I’ve been using something that match anglers usually ignore. At first it was just a trial but I now use them everywhere and it never lets me down,” explained Lance.

British record bream dead
The British record bream has been found dead.
The huge specimen was caught in May this year at a weight of 20lb 2oz from an Oxfordshire gravel pit by Simon Lavin, and it was the same angler who found the fish dead in the margins of the venue.
It is believed that the bream died of old age.
An even bigger bream of 22lb 9oz was caught by Mark McKenna in September 2009 from Ferry Lagoon in Cambridgeshire, but he never put in an official record claim as he was fishing for carp at the time.
Wye produces 100lb chub bag for pleasure angler
A trip to a club controlled stretch of the River Wye ended with Richard Pierce landing well over 100lb of chub and a bonus double figure pike.
The Warrington AA member made the journey to the association’s water and was able to take fish to 5lb at regular intervals on feeder and halibut pellets.
Things got even better later in the day when the alarm on his deadbait rod screamed off and a few minutes later there was a 19lb 9oz predator nestling in the bottom of the net.
Biggest carp of the year caught
The biggest carp of the year has been landed in the form of a 60lb 4oz mirror from a southern syndicate water by Chris Robson.
It is the first time which the carp known as The Parrot has broken the 60lb barrier and it was caught by the Basingstoke-based 41-year-old as he was packing away at the end of an overnight session on the 20-acre water.
